W. Phelan, Ph.D. This is another practical book for
maintaining / regaining parental control in the household.
For many families, using these techniques on a regular basis
will bring about very positive results. When these
techniques are not sufficient, it is probably time to
consult with a professional for additional guidance.
How
to Talk So Kids Will Listen & Listen so Kids Will Talk
- Adele Faber & Elaine Mazlish. This is an
excellent resource for learning how to better communicate
with your children, and in the process develop closer, more
cooperative relationships. The book provides many examples
(often in cartoon form) to help you see how to put the
theory into practice. Another favorite by these same authors
is: Siblings
Without Rivalry/How to Help Your Children Live Together so
You Can Live Too. As it's name suggests, this book
provides much needed assistance with that ever-so-common
problem of sibling rivalry.
The
7 Habits of Highly Effective Families - Stephen R.
Covey This is a long book, perhaps not easily read by
today's busy parents. However, if you are dedicated to
making your family life the best it can be, making the time
for reading this book might be a useful first step. It is
full of good ideas and examples that are presented in a way
that many people can relate to (Covey has 9 children of his
own, so certainly he has some personal experience to fall
back on...).
